Brain Scanner — A deterministic joke, drawn as a brain scan
Brain Scanner turns a name into a deliberately overconfident picture of what might be happening inside that person's head. It is a visual joke, not neuroscience, personality testing, medical advice, or a factual claim about anyone.
How to play
Type a first name or nickname and press Scan. A profile appears, a white brain lights up inside it, and words fill the brain from the outer edge toward the centre. The last word in the middle is the punch line. You can then post the card to X, or save it as PNG or SVG.
What the scan finds
The vocabulary is short words that travel across languages. The outer rings are the clean ones — Love, Friend, Family, Peace, Hope. The last word in the middle is the punch line — Money, ME, Lie, Booze, or a 404 when the scan finds almost nothing. Most scans are kind; roughly one in four lands on a joke worth sending to the person you scanned.
The same name produces the same scan
The name is normalized on the server, then processed by a deterministic generator that chooses the composition, words, colors, sizes, and coordinates. The browser receives only the finished drawing instructions. No generative AI is called for each scan, so the same name always gives the same result.
Why the words appear in stages
The delay is part of the joke: the image withholds its strongest answer until the end. If your device has reduced-motion enabled, the reveal is shortened and the result is shown with less animation.
Saving, sharing, and names
The entered name and its result are cached on the server so the same name can be reproduced. Shared links include the name in the URL, so anyone with that link can read it. Results are never listed publicly by this page. Use a nickname if you do not want to share a real name.
FAQ
Is this based on any real psychology or brain science?
No. The words are chosen by code from a fixed vocabulary, seeded by the letters of the name. Nothing about the result reflects the actual person.
Can I get a different result for the same name?
Not with the same spelling (capital letters make no difference). Add a middle initial or use a nickname and you will get a new scan.
Does it work in Japanese?
The interface and the words inside the brain are in English. A Japanese name typed in romaji works fine; for a Japanese-language version of the idea, try the Cat Scanner's sibling works on KuraLab.
